Our Comprehensive Eye Procedures
At SightMD®, our goal is to provide comprehensive eye care to patients with diverse needs at every stage of life. From older patients suffering from cataracts, to pediatric patients with strabismus, to young professionals seeking LASIK so they can eliminate the need for contacts or glasses, we offer eye procedures for everyone at our Long Island, NY, locations. We invest in the most current technology and employee the most skilled practitioners in the country, so that we can state with confidence that we offer unparalleled care.
LASIK & Vision Correction
We specialize in LASIK eye surgery, in which doctors utilize a laser to correct farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism, and other visual errors. LASIK may also be used after intraocular lenses (IOLs) are implanted following cataract surgery, in order to fine-tune a patient’s vision so that glasses are not necessary. LASIK is highly effective and can be life-changing: 98 percent of patients obtain 20/20 vision or better after undergoing this surgery, eliminating the need for contacts or glasses, and delivering immediate results with virtually no downtime.
Before you undergo the procedure, your doctor will perform a thorough exam to ensure the health of your eye and make sure that your cornea is thick enough for LASIK. For patients who are not candidates for LASIK because of thin corneas or other issues, we offer a similar alternative treatment, PRK, which you can discuss in more detail with your doctor.
“We invest in the most current technology and employ the most skilled practitioners in the country, so that we can state with confidence that we offer unparalleled care.”
The SightMD® LASIK Difference
Many practices offer LASIK, but at SightMD® we set ourselves apart:
- Our state-of-the-art technology, including iLASIK, IntraLase™, and iDesign® allows patients to enjoy highly customized, precise, blade-free LASIK treatment utilizing a unique digital fingerprint of your visual system.
- Our doctors have years of experience in laser vision correction, and have consistently been honored as New York Metro Area Top Doctors by Castle Connolly.
- Unlike other laser centers, in which different doctors work with patients at different stages of treatment, the same board certified eye surgeon will perform your free evaluation, your procedure, and provide your postoperative care.
If conservative measures such as eyeglasses are unable to correct blurry vision and other symptoms associated with cataracts, our doctors at SightMD offer additional treatments. Using advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technology, we can alleviate the problem by safely and effectively removing the damaged lens through cataract laser surgery, and then replacing it with an intraocular lens (IOL).
Thanks to advancements in technology and techniques, cataract laser surgery is the safest, most precise, and most comfortable form of treatment available to remove cataracts. With the latest in eye technology, our doctors are able to carefully plan and execute the precision in which the incisions are made into the cornea. The lasers are then used to safely and effectively break up the cataract into small fragments, making for easier removal. Unlike handheld tools and instruments that were traditionally used, the advancement of lasers also assists doctors by providing 3D imaging of the cornea, iris, lens, and unique mapping capabilities.
Once the cataract has been removed, in order to determine which IOL will best meet your needs, we utilize the ORA™ System. This revolutionary technology implements wavefront aberrometry to gather precise measurements of your eye during cataract surgery, allowing your practitioner to select the best IOL for you in regards to lens power, the magnitude and axis of astigmatism, and more.
We offer both standard and premium IOLs to accommodate your visual needs:
- AcrySof® Toric
- TECNIS® Multifocal
Once the ORA™ system has been used to give us the exact measurement, a quick 10-20 minutes is all the doctor will need to place the IOL. By combining the precision and advancements of both medical tools, patients will experience quicker recovery, improved results, and not require any type of eye patches, stitches, or prolonged recovery which was more common following a traditional procedure.
After an IOL is placed, in about 20 percent of cases the capsule may become cloudy again, months or even years after surgery. This condition is referred to as a secondary cataract, or posterior capsule opacity. If capsule opacity develops, we can easily utilize our Yag laser to painlessly removal the central part of the capsule so that a patient regains clear eyesight.

With early intervention, the odds of successful glaucoma treatment increase, which is why it is imperative that you visit your eye doctor regularly for exams.

Neuro-ophthalmology is the treatment of eye diseases caused by disorders of the nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis or cranial nerve palsy. These neurological disorders can exacerbate certain eye conditions, resulting in symptoms including double vision, sudden vision loss, drooping eyelids, bulging eyes, pupils unequal in size, and nystagmus (uncontrolled rapid eye movement).
Our experts in this highly-specialized field of medicine will provide compassionate care to manage and alleviate symptoms.
Regular exams are an important part of maintaining your child’s ocular health.
