Happy Holidays from all of us at SightMD.
When considering cataract surgery, let the ophthalmic surgeons of SightMD, previously North Shore Eye Care, can help you. The eye surgeons are experts in the field of cataract surgery. Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed surgical procedure in the United States. The surgeons perform small incision surgery. The wounds are self-sealing, so no stitches are required. The eye is numbed with topical eye drops. No needles are necessary. The entire surgery takes approximately 15 minutes. Additionally, we also offer laser cataract surgery. Laser cataract surgery is the newer, more sophisticated way to perform cataract surgery. No blades are used. The laser creates the incisions, pretreats the eye, softens the cataract and makes the entire procedure less traumatic on the eye. It is also safer.
We also offer the option of premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) . This type of IOL gives you both excellent distance and near vision. With the standard IOL, you are 100% reliant on reading glasses. The premium IOL frees you from the hassle of reading glasses. Additionally, there are other IOLs available to correct for astigmatism. Patients with astigmatism who’ve worn glasses their entire lives are able to correct their astigmatism with a toric IOL. Many times, patients who suffer with astigmatism see better than they ever have before after undergoing cataract surgery with the toric IOL implant.
The new IOL that replaces your dirty lens or cataract lasts a lifetime. It never has to be replaced. Occasionally a film or membrane may grow over the lens called a posterior capsular opacification or PCO. This can potentially fog your vision. Should this develop postoperatively, we can clear this film very easily. We use a special laser, called a YAG laser, that breaks open this film or membrane, thereby clearing the visual axis. This laser is done right in the office. No anesthesia is required. It takes less than 5 minutes to do and the results are instantaneous. Whether you’re considering laser cataract surgery, traditional cataract surgery, or simply want to know more about it, call one of our offices today. We’re happy to review the procedure in detail with you to help you decide if cataract surgery is right for you.
