LASIK eye surgery performed at our practice is safe, technologically advanced, and comfortable. Less than one percent of LASIK surgeries result in complication, but we are sensitive to the fact that anxiety can create a significant obstacle for some patients. We are proud to offer RELAX LASIK, incorporating anesthesia to help patients achieve full sedation during LASIK treatment. If anxiety is keeping you from pursuing the opportunity to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses, RELAX LASIK could be the treatment solution for you. No matter how safe a procedure like LASIK is, sometimes anxiety can get in your way at the best of times. RELAX LASIK lets you put your anxiety out of your head.
Helping Patients Rest Easy throughout Treatment
LASIK is traditionally performed while a patient is awake. A local anesthetic is administered to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. The patient’s eyes are numbed using eye drops, and a medication like Valium is taken to reduce anxiety.
For the anxious LASIK patient, we offer intravenous (IV) sedation, a type of highly controlled anesthesia. For a slight increase in your treatment fee, an on-site board-certified anesthesiologist will be available to answer your questions, administer sedation, and monitor you during RELAX LASIK to ensure absolute safety throughout the procedure. With a procedure like RELAX LASIK available at SightMD, there’s never been a better time to get LASIK.
What to Expect during RELAX LASIK
Once you arrive at our state-of-the-art laser center, you will relax with the aid of IV sedation and have your eyes numbed with local anesthetic. After you are fully sedated, the IntraLase® IFS™ Laser will create a corneal flap, providing access to the stroma, the inner layer of the cornea. Next, the VISX Star S4™ Excimer Laser will reshape the cornea. Our surgeons prefer 100% bladeless LASIK for its numerous benefits, including reduced recovery time and minimized risk of complications. The entire procedure can be completed in as little as 10 minutes, and you can expect to be resting in the comfort of your home within a half hour. Many of our patients experience improved vision in as little as 24 hours following LASIK, and about 98% achieve 20/20 vision or better.
Other than being under IV sedation, there is no difference between RELAX LASIK and our traditional LASIK procedure. With such a short procedure, you may feel like you’ve only closed your eyes for a moment. Just like that, your RELAX LASIK procedure is over!
Just like traditional LASIK, you will need to arrange a ride home with a friend or loved one after your procedure. You may be advised to rest in our state-of-the-art laser center for a short time before leaving.
Our board-certified anesthesiologist will keep an eye on your vitals both during and after RELAX LASIK. Anesthesia is safe, but every patient reacts to it differently. We will let you leave once we know that you aren’t experiencing any side-effects from the anesthesia.
