The Park Avenue Community

Park Avenue is known for bustling city life and notable businesses such as the Deutsche Bank, Council on Foreign Relations, New York Life, and now SightMD! Once known as Fourth Avenue, the area has historically been at the heart of the development of New York City, carrying tracks of the New York and Harlem railroad. Today, Park Avenue is home to Grand Central Station, and a common setting for blockbuster films such as The Avengers, I Am Legend, and Men in Black.

Our Services

  • Cataract Surgery – If you think you may have cataracts, schedule an appointment at SightMD! Our doctors perform only the most advanced Laser Cataract Surgery. Getting laser cataract surgery ensures our patients are having their cataracts removed in a way that promotes faster healing and the best results. During cataract surgery, your cataract surgeon at SightMD removes the cloudy natural lens of your eye. The lens is then replaced with an artificial implant intraocular lens or IOL. There are many different kinds of IOLs to choose from, so this is something you should discuss with your doctor at SightMD during your cataract screening.
  • Treatment of Glaucoma – Glaucoma is called the silent thief of sight for a reason. With open-angle glaucoma, there are no symptoms until you start losing your vision. By this point, your vision loss will only continue getting worse. This is why having regular eye exams with your eye doctor at SightMD is so important! Our Park Ave location offers glaucoma treatment options to help you stop further vision loss in its tracks.
  • Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy – If you have diabetes, you may be familiar with the term diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy occurs when blood sugar levels get too high and affect your eyes. Diabetic retinopathy is part of a group of diabetic eye diseases and conditions. When left untreated, diabetic retinopathy can lead to severe vision loss and blindness. If you have diabetic retinopathy, it affects the blood vessels in the retina. As it advances, the retina tries to grow new blood vessels. These new blood vessels are weak and prone to leak. This causes cell loss and scarring in the retina. SightMD offers diabetic retinopathy treatment to help stop the growth of new blood vessels. This includes laser surgery to improve your vision and prevent the loss of more of your vision.
  • Treatment of Macular Degeneration – Macular degeneration occurs when the macula becomes damaged. The macula is located in the central area of the retina. Damage to the macula means seeing things in detail becomes more difficult, like looking at small objects or tiny print. There are two kinds of macular degeneration: wet and dry. With wet macular degeneration, new and weak blood vessels start growing in or underneath the retina. In dry macular degeneration, blood vessel material begins building up under the macula, which cuts off most of the blood flow to the retina. If you have macular degeneration, talk to your SightMD doctor about your treatment options for wet macular degeneration. We offer photocoagulation and photodynamic therapy, as well as intraocular injections. In photocoagulation, we apply a hot laser to slow down the progression of weak blood vessels. With photodynamic therapy, a cold user is used, along with intravenous drugs to slow down the growth of abnormal blood vessels. Intraocular injections are not a permanent fix, but they do slow down blood vessel growth.
