A colleague recommended that I go here as he had undergone Lasek surgery here a few years back and was very happy with his results. I always considered doing eye surgery, so I figured it would not hurt to at least go for a consultation. I was initially helped by Kelly, whom I believe is the general office coordinator. She was extremely helpful, and did whatever was necessary to make sure that I had a good experience and was sufficiently informed about the surgery. She was not the only one that was very helpful; Dr. Zweibel, the lovely ladies at the front desk, the attending nurses (is that what they're called?) were all incredibly friendly as well. And I never waited long for my appointments, save for one time where I waited over 40 minutes (the waiting room was pretty full, I'll give them that).

I ended up deciding to do the surgery and opted for PRK instead of Lasek, which is similar to Lasek but does not leave a permanent flap on top of your eye which can sometimes, although rarely, be dislodged. It does however have a longer healing period, which can last a month or more. Although PRK is usually performed by boxers, air force pilots and the like (and I am neither), I still felt more comfortable opting for this procedure as I would rather not have a flap left over on top of my eye that could potentially be dislodged. Just the idea of that happening is disconcerting, I can only imagine it must also feel very uncomfortable if not painful. So no thanks.

The first couple of days were pretty rough, as I could not see either up close, which I could do before quite well, or far. I was essentially stuck to my bed for those 2 days, unable to read, drive, watch TV and browse the internet. Very boring indeed. But after those 2 days my eyesights began improving dramatically. It has now been a little over three weeks, and my right eye is I would say at around 90% of perfect (although it already is at 20/20). However, my left eye became a bit blurry after 1 week and has yet to improve. It is I think at around 20/35, so definitely not good enough yet. I'm sure it will get better within the next few months, but worse comes to worse if it does not improve by month 3, they will redo the procedure on my left eye to fix it free of charge (lifetime guarantee).

Once my left eye heals to the same level as my right eye, I will increase my rating to 5 stars. But otherwise, the staff, the level of information provided, the care and the support is all top notch.

Also, if anybody has any questions about PRK, please don't hesitate to ask!

I had the most incredible experience at N.S. eye care. The staff is professional, friendly, and were always ready to assist me before and after my lasik procedure. I was very nervous about having lasik, Dr. Zweibel was so assuring and I can say he is an amazing doctor. Thank you to everyone at N.S. eye care!!

At our Smithtown facility, we offer a variety of services, including:

General Ophthalmology – We provide comprehensive exams using advanced diagnostic tools to assess and monitor your eye health.

LASIK – Bladeless iLASIK utilizes laser technology to reshape your cornea and provide clearer vision. We use the most advanced technology in a safe, controlled setting to provide our patients with the many benefits of refractive surgery.

Cataract Treatment – We offer comprehensive treatment of cataracts, including laser cataract surgery. We can remove a diseased lens and implant an intraocular lens (IOL) to restore your vision in a safe and precise way.

iDesign Technology – We utilize Abbott’s iDesign system to precisely map the contours of the eye. A three-second scan with this wavefront system reveals important data for assessing your health and evaluating your candidacy for refractive surgery.
Treatment of Corneal Conditions – We offer treatment for various conditions affecting the cornea, ranging from conservative options to a corneal transplant procedure.

Uveitis Treatment – Uveitis can cause inflammation in different structures of the eye. We provide advanced diagnostic methods and treatment options for patients suffering from uveitis, which can develop as a result of infection, autoimmune disorders, or unknown causes.

Glaucoma Treatment – Glaucoma involves abnormally high eye pressure, which can cause damage to the optic nerve and impair vision. Our experts offer both surgical and non-surgical glaucoma treatment options.

Treatment of Retina Conditions – At our Smithtown office, we are proud to provide the diagnosis treatment for a variety of retinal conditions. This includes conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, floaters, retinal detachment, and others.

Ocular Plastic Surgery – Our team offers a variety of plastic surgery procedures to address cosmetic and health issues in the eye area. Whether the structures of your eye have been affected by a health condition, trauma, or the natural aging process, our experts can provide improved function and appearance.

Pediatric Ophthalmology – Ocular health is vital to overall health, so we provide vision care for children starting as early as six months of age. From testing eye coordination and movement to screening for refractive errors, we seek to protect your child’s vision throughout each stage of their development.

Audiology Services – We offer comprehensive audiology services, including audiological evaluations, hearing aid evaluation and selection, and custom earpieces.

Our Technology

At SightMD, we incorporate the most advanced ophthalmological technology into each area of our practice. We use optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus photography to evaluate disorders of the optic nerve. Corneal pachymetry allows us to measure corneal thickness prior to LASIK surgery, and we also use it as a screening tool for glaucoma and other eye disorders. We utilize the newest laser technology to perform refractive surgery and to treat eye conditions like cataracts and glaucoma.
