Lawrence Buono, MD is a board certified ophthalmologist that treats all medical and surgical conditions of the eye. As the attending neuro-ophthalmologist at the Duke Eye Center, he had the opportunity to care for patients with complex neuro-ophthalmic conditions and worked closely with the Department of Neurosurgery at the Duke University Brain Tumor Center. He was an active cataract and anterior segment surgeon in addition to his responsibilities as a teacher.
Dr. Buono has authored numerous papers on neuro-ophthalmic disorders in the ophthalmic literature and serves as a reviewer for several of the major ophthalmic journals. He also holds a patent for experimental work he did in the use of injectable dyes for the staining of the anterior lens capsule and vitreo-retinal interface, which aids cataract surgeons in performing safer surgery. Dr. Buono has lectured extensively in ophthalmology as both a clinical instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and as an invited speaker. He actively participates at national ophthalmic meetings.
Dr. Buono resides in East Quogue with his wife Dr. Christine Speer Buono and their two children. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, cooking and woodworking.
